Het laatste crossweekend was aangebroken, nog twee wedstrijden moest ik afwerken. Te beginnen met de zeer lastige cross in Valkenburg vandaag. De 'Zwitserse' omloop staat gekenmerkt door het vele hoogteverschil, en de steile klimmetjes en afdalingen. Ook de startstrook liep lichtjes bergop.
Net als vorige week in Heerlen startte ik vandaag tussen de profs. Ook hier stonden een heleboel toppers aan de start, met o.a. Belgisch kampioen Klaas Vantornhout, Kevin Pauwels, Radomir Simunek,... Ook stonden er enkele goede beloften aan het vertrek.
Het had 's nachts gesneeuwd, waardoor één deel van het parcours modderig en glibberig was, en het andere deel heel hard en glad. Het zou dus een uur lang heel geconcentreerd en voorzichtig rondrijden worden.
Deze keer stond ik pas op de derde rij, en draaide ik rond de tiende positie het veld in. Al snel was het podium bekend, Martin Bina, Radomir Simunek en Philip Walsleben. Ik had een goed gevoel, en reed met vertrouwen rond op de omloop. Ik maakte in het begin enkele kleine slippertjes, maar het lukte me na een paar ronden toch om aan de sluiten in een groep die voor de vierde plaats reed. Met nog twee ronden te gaan reden Vantornhout en Zwitsers kampioen Taramarcaz weg van het groepje. Ik ging samen met ploegmaat Petrus achter deze twee aan. Aansluiting maakte lukte niet, maar door een foutje van Petrus kon ik als zesde eindigen.
Opnieuw een zeer goed gevoel vandaag na vorige week in Heerlen, met alweer een zesde plaats in een mooi deelnemersveld als resultaat. Leuk dat er ook een aparte huldiging voor de beloften werd voorzien, waar ik ook bovenaan op het podium mocht plaatsnemen voor Dolfsma en Van Aert. Morgen is het de laatste cross van het seizoen, in Oostmalle!
